Lot Title:
1911-D PCGS MS-64RD.
Description:
Blatant, brash, flaming five alarm fire-orange color gets in-your-face and shows what a properly preserved, fully original mint-red early Lincoln cent is supposed to look like. Barring miraculous, new coin doctor technology, this is the epitome of an original red cent, with just enough small carbon flecks present on the obverse to prove that nobody has messed with the surfaces. The reverse shows a carbon patch in the vicinity of CEN amidst a fiery blaze of luster, and neither side displays more than a couple of trivial marks, except for Lincoln's shoulder, of course. A true prize for the aficionado.

1911-D doesn't stand out as a key date to the small-cent series, but the details shown here are unusually sharp for an early branch-mint example, with Lincoln's beard displaying a wealth of carefully... |

Sharpness is very pleasing for an early branch-mint wheat cent, and the reverse seems particularly well struck for 1911-D. A subtle blush of copper-rose patina may be seen aligned with the center of... |
