(Undated (1790 - 1810) Washington Success Medal Large Size/Reeded Edge/Silvered (Breen 1286, Baker 265B). PCGS AU-58.
Description:
Beautifully centered major details maximize the medallic effect of this Washington "Success Token", struck on a large planchet and silvered. The PCGS label asserts a reeded edge. The die crack at 3:00 that is practically diagnostic of the large-sized planchet is near its genesis, having not yet become fully formed. This being an earlier die-state was conducive to a better strike than that usually seen, as confirmed by realization that the Eye of Providence at the center of the reverse is actually shows a touch of detail. Washington's hair strands are unusually sharp, and minimal cartwheel effect can be seen on the reverse, an astonishing revelation for this type.
