Lot Title:
1934-S PCGS MS-65.
Description:
Many collectors who choose to commence a half-dollar "short set" with 1934 soon realize that 1934-S is the key, and for that matter, one has to go back to 1928-S to find a more difficult date in the series. The strike for this gem is outstanding, with formidable detail in all areas, even at the hand, where just the forefinger is not quite defined. Except for contact marks, Liberty's head seems fully struck, and the eagle shows the slightest incompleteness at the front of his back leg. Luster is a trifle subdued compared to gem examples of more common dates, but this is partially due to an impressive assortment of iridescent tone caused by album storage. The obverse fields are adorned with competing threads of sea-green, platinum-blue and golden peach colors, and the reverse features limited samples of similar tone over bright, lustrous surfaces.

Only some counter marks are holding this high grade Dollar back from being a monster. There is no toning at all, and it is fully struck. This is a date that you just don’t see in high grades. |
