Lot Title:

1802 Narrow Normal Date (B-6, BB241, R.1). PCGS Genuine.
Description:
Glossy surfaces and uneven color undoubtedly resulted in the PCGS Genuine-94 assessment for "altered surfaces". Indeed, gunmetal-blue tone distributed about the reverse periphery seems to have been manually applied, along with some olive-drab toning on the obverse. That being said, there is much to enjoy about the sharp, prominently struck detail, which includes intricate hair strands and exceptionally sharp shield lines. Surfaces are amazingly free from handling marks or defects, and there are no obvious hairlines, although a number of adjustment marks traverse the center of Liberty's portrait. BB-241 is the most common die-marriage for 1802, and the issues associated with this particular example are likely to keep its value in a range that would be very attractive to the type collector on a budget.
