(About The Images)
1909-S V.D.B. in a nearly complete set of Lincoln cents 1909 through 2009-S in a Dansco 8100 album. 1909-S V.D.B. in a nearly complete set of Lincoln cents 1909 through 2009-S in a Dansco 8100 album.
Lot Title: 1909-S V.D.B. in a nearly complete set of Lincoln cents 1909 through 2009-S in a Dansco 8100 album.
Description: Consistently nice wheat cents dominate the early part of this album. Indeed, the keys (no 1922-plain) are highlighted by very attractive no-problem coins, including: 1909-S VDB (VF), 1909-S (VG), 1911-S (G), 1914-D (VG), 1924-D (G), and 1931-S (VF), and 1935-S (MS-63 RD). Obviously, the consignor put some effort into assembling a nice set! From 1941 on, many coins are BU, but very curiously, most of them have odd magenta-blue toning dominating the center of each side, and most times this would be called "questionable toning". It might be tempting to guess that the discoloration derives from where the collector used his finger to press the coins into the set, but that wouldn't explain the same toning on the reverse of many coins... Most curious indeed. Many Memorial cents exhibit similar behavior. From 1984-S on, the peculiarity suddenly disappears, and all remaining coins seem to be normal, glowing red BU examples, and extend all the way through 2009-S, with proofs included.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
