Lot Title:
1944-S NGC MS-66.
Description:
Magnificent pearlescent surface quality leads to instant gratification as this very-gem Walker falls under critical examination. Fields display potent luster cloaked beneath a prodigious supply of magenta-grey patina, while slivers of rainbow iridescence accent the upper and lower edges of the obverse. The reverse is as dramatically attractive, and for an "S" mint example, the strike leaves almost nothing to be desired, with just modest weakness at the center of each side.

By 1944, San Francisco still had not completely solved its strike problems of the half-dollar coin, though steps clearly had been made to improve over the disastrous strikes of 1941-S. This very-gem... |
