Lot Title:
1898 PCGS MS-66.
Description:
Very, very close to being superb, this very gem Barber dime provides great insight into exactly how freshly minted dimes of the era were intended to look. Satin-fresh surfaces exude lovely pearl-silver color that is nearly untoned, yet seems undipped, since the luster flows freely and suffers no inhibition whatsoever. Definition of the details is absolutely outstanding, if not technically full, and with such clean surfaces and a great strike, repunching at the bottom of "18" in the date is immediately obvious under magnification. Faint magenta-gold patina drapes over the lower half of the obverse, further augmenting the vintage appearance, and all that obstructs upgrade is a couple of trivial luster grazes on Liberty's cheek.
