Lot Title:
Five Capped Bust half-dollars.
Description:
Dates for this group of half-dollars are concentrated in the 1820s, an era popular with collectors, and a rare Overton variety is included. They are cataloged as: 1823 (O-101a) "patched 3" VF, 1823 (O-104) VF, 1824/4 (O-109) VF, 1825 (O-109 R.5) XF/cracked planchet, 1826 (O-120a) XF/erasered. Naturally, the rare (R.5) 1825 O-109 is the jewel of this quintet, and it is all the more interesting for the as-struck edge planchet crack noted at 7:00. It should be noted that all the coins are a little pale overall in this five coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
