Lot Title:

1804 Crosslet 4 - Stemless (C-12, R-2). ICG MS-61 BN.
Description:
Evidently Breen's die-state I since the die clash behind the hair and beneath the ribbons is clearly defined, while there is little evidence of obverse die rust mentioned for later die-states. Sharply struck and well centered, though not quite as sharp as Breen's plate, and very close to being fully uncirculated, there are some very faint hairline scratches crisscrossing Liberty's hair, denying full mint-state status. Still, flowline luster is simply outstanding, and the slightest hint of faded red can be seen sweeping through the field below Liberty's bust, both characteristics that are in harmony with the commercial MS-61 BN grade assigned by ICG. There is a tiny dig next to "C" in CENT, and another below the "N", and an areas of handling marks can be seen next to the final letter of AMERICA. Sharpness of AU-55, with an EAC 45 estimate.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1804 Crosslet 4 - Stemless (C-12, R.2). PCGS MS-64 BN.
Crosslet "4" somewhat high and no stems on the wreath for an early die-state C-12, with clear clash marks behind Liberty's tresses. Housed in a PCGS rattler holder, the commercial grade seems mildly... |
