1826 (C-1, R-1) AU-55 BN.

Description:
|
A likely attempt to dip this copper coin was foiled since light circulation had already removed luster anyhow, and there was no way this 1826 C-1 was going to look uncirculated afterward. Subsequent patina now crosses over each side, producing an unusual conspiracy of salmon-pink and maroon colors, with a smidgeon of original red color still clinging to some reverse devices. There are simply no nicks or scratches, but a scattering of tiny micro-pits on the reverse hint at past transgressions in an unhealthy (for copper) environment. Sharpness of AU-55, with an EAC 35 estimate, although proper recoloring could increase the eye appeal slightly.
