Lot Title:

Complete set of AU-BU Washington quarters, including proof-only issues, 1932 thru 1996, in a Dansco 8140 album.
|
Description:
|
Meaningful effort was made by the consignor to upgrade this handsome Washington quarter collection, and the benefits show, with gorgeous, lustrous examples occupying every slot from 1932 - 1996 of the Dansco album. All proofs from 1969 onward, including silver proofs, are included, though slots after 1991 are not factory-labeled. What sets this collection apart from the run-of-the-mill is the exceptional album toning that has seized possession of many clad coins from 1971 - 1983-S. Vivid rainbow tone occupies the margins of these coins, and the proofs are breathtaking. Key coins are highlighted as follows: 1932-D (AU-58/lightly cleaned), 1932-S (AU-58), 1934-D (AU-58), 1935-D (AU-55/cleaned), 1936-D (AU-50/altered surfaces), 1937-D (MS-63), 1937-S (MS-63), 1938-S (MS-63), 1939-S "doubled-die obverse" (MS-63), and 1940-D (MS-62). Appending the set is an example of each of the SMS coins, plus an additional 1881-S proof. A slew of coins in the 1940s and 1950s are gems or nearly so, but the hidden value of this collection is without a doubt to be found in the beautifully toned clad pieces.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
