(About The Images)
1793 Lettered Edge (S-11, R-5). PCGS F-12. 1793 Lettered Edge (S-11, R-5). PCGS F-12.
Lot Title: 1793 Lettered Edge (S-11, R-5). PCGS F-12.
Description: The slab insert of this PCGS green-label holder prevents precise attribution to either S-11b or S-11c (lettered edge). Imperfect planchet quality is the norm for a 1793 cent of any of the three types, and this example exhibits typical moderate roughness, though even distribution of the surface texture assures a consistent look from side to side, and edge to edge. Lightly cleaned at one time, the fields are presently walnut-brown or darker, while highpoint details manifest a bronze cast with slightly brassy-reddish undertone. A single greenish-white spot is deposited in Liberty's hair near the lower tresses while the reverse shows no color aberrations at all, and both sides feature very decent detail. Obverse date and legend are boldly readable, and only the fraction only the tops of a few letters on the reverse legend are slightly soft. Sharpness of "fine", leading to a net EAC 8 grade, if not a little better.

279The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$7,250.00
1793 Lettered Edge (S-11b) ANACS VF-20.
The lettered edge cannot be viewed within the ANACS holder, but would identify this S-11 die-marriage as the "b" subtype. In reviewing the finest known S-11b (ex-Dan Holmes), it is interesting to...
280The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$25,750.00
1793 Lettered Edge PCGS AU-50.
Luster plays essentially no major role in the grading of copper at this, the commercial AU-50 level, as original coins will have developed patina that should obscure flowline texture, and of course,...
436The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$5,500.00
1793 Lettered Edge/Vertical Left Leaf/Beads Far From Legend...
Attractive smooth planchet quality is much nicer than the rough surfaces often seen available, and the color is pleasing as well, leading to the appearance of a very-fine coin with no problems. ...
237The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$2,100.00
1793 S-11b, Breen-1645, R-4, Lettered Edge. VF-30.
On this variety the Vine and Bars edge device has been supplanted by lettering that reads, "100 FOR A DOLLAR" followed by two tiny leaves. It is the only variety that depicts this double leaf...
250The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$4,150.00
1793 Lettered Edge. ANACS XF Details, Net VF-20.
Both sides show full detail with light overall porosity, which is a very common look on early copper coins. This coin has much nicer surfaces than the usual coin in a net holder. Liberty's face is...
