Lot Title:

1847-D (repunched date) ANACS AU-58 details/cleaned.
Description:
Evidence of cleaning is certainly minimal, with perhaps a slightly dull cast on each side providing the best clue to any surface issue. Admittedly, this coin is somewhat bright, but everyone knows that there is much bright Dahlonega gold in certified holders, and one can certainly envision this coin being straight-graded upon resubmission. At any rate, the 1847-D quarter-eagle is not common by any means in grades of AU or better, much scarcer in mint-state grades, and this example shows scarcely any signs of wear at all. Each side is typically abraded, with some random tiny scrapes perhaps being the best indication of circulation.
