Lot Title:
1894 NGC PF-64.
Description:
The lower two-thirds of the obverse is draped with a luscious layer of cinnamon-gold color, and this scheme continues across the entire reverse, leaving only an upper crescent of essentially untoned silver on the obverse, above Liberty's ear and forehead. A dash of obsidian tone appears suddenly at the base of Liberty's neck, and there are a few very small dashes of similar dark tone near the rims, but none are particularly distracting. A tiny and unobtrusive jagged pinscratch is noted at the lower olive branch on the reverse.

Gem eye-appeal need not derive from blazing luster, as many coins with deep, original toning must necessarily offer only indications of potent luster. Here is an 1894 Barber quarter coin draped... |
