Lot Title:
1787 Fugio Cent "8 Pointed Stars on Label" (Newman 15-Y, R-3) F.
Description:
Popular for the eight pointed stars on the reverse, though it so happens that wear has left only the top star visible. This is no surprise since 15-Y was know to suffer rapd wear in the central areas, and many examples have both stars worn off. A fairly pleasing example, the planchet is a touch better than average, suffering none of the roughness that ravages competing examples. Moderate planchet voids can be seen near the sundial, and there is a lengthier such void on the reverse that nearly becomes a lamination. Two-thirds of the Roman numerals are readable, leading to a details grade of perhaps F-15. Recolored with a brassy-reddish finish that is not unattractive, yet denies a more original appearance.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
