Lot Title:
1787 Fugio Copper/ 4 Cinquefoils/ Pointed Rays. Newman 8-B, Kessler.8-B, R-3. NGC MS-64 RB.
Description:
Newman 8-B is always a safe first guess for attribution of any high-grade Fugio, since the Bank of New York hoard had so many mint state examples of this variety. This is an exceedingly attractive coin, blooming with full mint luster and delightful neon-blue iridescence, and the planchet is actually about average or better despite some tapering roughness at BUSINESS that affects the corresponding detail area of the reverse. NGC provided an "RB" color designation, though in all honesty, most would consider this a "BN" coin.
