1811 Normal Date (S-287, R-2). F. 1811 Normal Date (S-287, R-2). F.
Lot Title: 1811 Normal Date (S-287, R-2). F.
Description: Copper collectors have come to grips with the fact that Classic head large-cents of 1811 are usually just plain ugly, as they seldom escape having corrosion on one side or the other (if not both!). With XF-40 detail that includes a bold peripheral strike and a good planchet, this S-287 has only patches of mild surface corrosion on the reverse, and some of it looks removable. Unfortunately, a scribble of scratches in the left field are still apparent despite their age, and two small digs appear above Liberty's portrait. These deficiencies are sufficient to net the grade down to about EAC 15. Still a far cry better than the granular, craggy coins that usually come to market. From the Forest Park Collection.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1811 (S-287). ICG VF-20.
ICG's assigned VF-20 grade is certainly contentious on a couple of fronts. In the first place, sharpness seems a little short for that assessment, and in addition, several tiny pinpricks are...

1811 Normal Date. VF-35.
This is a very nice example of a difficult design type. The copper used for the Classic Head series is softer than that used on earlier and later cents. This coin is preserved well with only one...
