Lot Title:
1845-D PCGS AU-55.
Description:
1845 saw the Dahlonega mint producing better quality half-eagles, and this example follows that trend, with very good details in the hair curls and the eagle's shield and feathers. Mint sheen glitters from the protected peripheral recesses between the stars which themselves are nicely struck. A trail of reddish-bronze tone slips between a number of obverse stars and also makes its way into some of the reverse lettering.
