Lot Title:
1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 5-B.2, Low Rarity-5, 117.6 grains. VF.
Description:
(Ex. Bob Lomprey, Jr./C4 2006: 433) Marvelous color is provided by a perfect counterpoint of dark chocolate fields and sienna-brown devices, aiding the already prominent details on either side. The large and exceptional planchet (for a Connecticut) received a powerful impression on either side, and just moderate wear has left behind choice very-fine or better details. The most obvious defect is a blunt scrape just below the chin, and there are two minor rim dings in the lower left quadrant, while the reverse is entirely unimpaired, marked only by a minor planchet void (as struck) just above the first two digits of the date. A "7" is inked into the right obverse field. From the standpoint of visual impact, the large round planchet and bold details are hard to surpass at this grade level.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
