Lot Title: 1787 Connecticut Copper, "AUCTOBI" variety. Miller 39.2-ee, Rarity-5, 122.2 grains. XF.
Description: Centering is very good on the obverse and decent on the reverse, producing a coin that features a complete date with accompanying lower denticles and a full complement of the peripheral legends, except for the very top of ET LIB. This is fortuitous since the AUCTOBI error is easily legible on the obverse. Olive-tan coloration could not be improved on for the type, and just the right touch of two-toned effect helps to augment the apparent sharpness of the rather flat details, allowing all of the drapery folds and nearly all the hair details to be viewed with ease. Specialists will appreciate the outstanding surface quality that is virtually unaffected by post-mint impairments, though circulation has left a minor mark above the ear and there is a mysterious deposit of "something" at 11:00 on the reverse rim. This assume one adjustment for orientation when reviewing the reverse, as the dies struck this with nearly 90 degrees rotation between them.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
