Lot Title:
1785 Connecticut Copper. Miller 3.1-A.3, Rarity-4, 154.0 grains. XF.
Description:
Nearly stunning, this 3.1-A.3 provides outstanding, smooth eye appeal that benefits from creamy, original caramel-tan surfaces and a wonderful strike. The obverse is well centered and features nearly all the intricate details available from the die, including sharply defined hair and mail, along with superbly defined facial features. Reverse details are readily defined as well, with even the finer lines in the globe strong and fully present. Because the planchet tapers to the lower right side (as viewed from the reverse), the date is very weak, with the last two digits essentially missing. Unimportant striations meander across parts of the planchet obverse, mostly along the upper left side, while the reverse shows one small fissure at 7:00. The consignor states that this coin is listed high in the condition census, carrying a grade of "choice extremely-fine", and it would be tough to dispute that claim. A very pretty coin!
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
