Lot Title: 1849 Open Wreath and 1849 Closed Wreath. MS-64.
Description: Below grades of AU, there is not a huge disparity in value between the two gold dollar types of 1849, but in middle mint state grades, the scarcity (and therefore the value) of the "open wreath" type clearly exceeds that of the "closed wreath" type. Both coins are included here, the "open wreath" graded MS-64 by PCGS, and the "closed wreath" likewise graded MS-64 by NGC. Collectors will often decry (yes, and even complain) about differences in grading standards between the premier grading companies, but the fact is that these two particular coins are definitely of equitable grade. Neither example provides any distractions to dispute the assigned MS-64 grades in this two coin lot.
