Lot Title: 1873 Closed 3. PCGS PF-64 RB.
Description: The "red/brown" color designation does not adequately convey the fully red appearance of this proof, and without a doubt, it was submitted with expectation of the coveted inclusion of the letters "RD" following the "PR64"! Admittedly, some mellowing of the original color can be seen under a loupe, as those areas that cling directly to the letters and devices are brighter than the surrounding fields, but overall, the viewer's impression is that of a coin that just fell off the dies. A significant number of flyspecks pepper mostly the obverse, but not one of them is individually distracting, and any collector should be pleased with the unimpeachable, luminous velvety brilliance
