Lot Title:

1830 (BD-1, B-1, R-4) PCGS Genuine.
|
Description:
|
It is far from immediately apparent why PCGS declined to grade this coin, indicating only "genuine" on the holder. Your cataloger feels that it should grade at least AU-50, with no need to net the grade for impairments. Admittedly, this desirable early type coin manifests some signs of having been unobtrusively cleaned, but that is hardly shocking news for a coin of this era. The glittering aspect conveys hints of prooflike contrast from the obverse, while the reverse is more typically frosted. Minor handling marks cluster at the bottom of Liberty's neck, and a pair of smallish, shallow planchet flaws look like wings affixed to the first star.

Mint records show 4,540 were struck this year. Although it has a prooflike aspect, it possibly received a light cleaning long ago. Exquisite yellow-gold surfaces enhance its prominent strike. |
