Lot Title:
1900 five-piece Proof Set.
Description:
Addition of a quarter is required to complete this proof set, but the coins that are present are quite attractive. The Morgan dollar displays strong reverse cameo contrast, though the obverse limits this designation, and several prominent hairlines across the cheek lead to a grade of PF-61. An attempt to enhance the cameo effect of the Barber half unfortunately limits the grade possibilities, resulting in an assessment of PF-60, artificially enhanced cameo frost. The Barber dime is the jewel of this set, with pleasing, original coloration and mild cameo contrast that lead to a grade of PF-64. Attractive obverse fields and contrast aid the nickel's eye appeal, though some staining of the reverse suggests an overall grade of PF-64, and the Indian head cent has a fresh, coppery appearance and some carbon spots that lead to a grade of PF-63 RD.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
