(About The Images)
1898 six-piece Proof Set. 1898 six-piece Proof Set.
Lot Title: 1898 six-piece Proof Set.
Description: Brilliant proof coins with lavish cameo contrast provide enormous eye appeal for this 1898 proof set, and all five non-gold denominations are represented. The Morgan dollar features an exquisite strike and heavily frosted devices that are not far from ultra-cameo status, but some hairlines across the cheek and in the fields impact the effect slightly, resulting in a PF-62 CAM grade. Matched very well for general appearance is the Barber half, which despite a little less contrast is deserving of a PF-63 CAM grade. The quarter comes closer to ultra-cameo status than the dollar, and grades PF-63 CAM+. The Barber dime is technically the best of the silver coins, despite a few small dark toning spots on the right side of the obverse, and it grades PF-63 UCAM. Nearly pristine fields and lovely mirrors render a grade of PF-64 CAM for the Liberty nickel, and finally, the Indian head cent is drenched with beautiful burgundy color, but only minimal reverse cameo contrast, leading to a grade of PF-64 RB. A thoroughly enjoyable vintage proof set.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
