Lot Title:

1872-CC Seated Liberty quarter, ANACS XF-40, cleaned, corroded
|
Description:
|
The "corrosion" alluded to by ANACS takes the form of built-up scale most of the fields, and contributes several small pockmarks in scattered areas across each side. Most likely a ground find, chance are that the subsequent cleaning was in fact of benefit to the appearance of this very rare issue. Remarkably, some original mint luster persists in protected areas, especially around the obverse stars, but there is no doubt that this coin has surface issues.
Of course, any 1872-CC quarter is a rare coin, and many can be traced through auction catalogs. Your cataloger recognizes the present coin from personal experience, and at one time, it was actually incorrectly placed in an ANACS dime holder, graded as "net F-12", but the present "net VF-20" holder seems more appropriate, and of course is properly denominated. By no means would this be an inappropriate candidate for an album collection, and aggressive competition for the ownership of this piece is expected.
