Lot Title:
|
1878-CC (Pair) Seated Liberty quarters
|
Description:
|
Seldom do we get the opportunity to offer such two examples of the same issue in such disparate grades! The first - and clearly better - of these Carson City products grades XF-45, with rich, charcoal-grey color throughout. It is accompanied by a second example that grades no better than "fair". Although faint, just enough of the mintmark is discernible to confirm the issue. Curiously, the obverse looks VG-10, with LIBERTY virtually complete. Two coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

An old dip or very light cleaning is forgivable now that the obverse has become well toned, and the white reverse retains virtually all its original luster. |

A conservative grade of just MS-64 seems to understate the considerable eye appeal of this flashy and frosty white Carson City quarter. Hardly any details failed to be brought up by the energetic... |

1878-CC PCGS AU-58 OGH.

Rather drab and a bit glossy on the obverse, but the reverse is more dynamic. Some nifty die rust is apparent on Liberty’s portrait, and peripheral die cracks appear on the reverse. Housed in and... |
