Lot Title:
1783 'Unity States' cent, NGC AU-53 BN
Description:
As evasion pieces struck most likely in Birmingham, England, these are always found on intentionally striated planchets, intended to give the coins the appearance of having been circulated and used. Luckily, the present example suffers little ill effect from this process, as the striations are isolated mostly to the extreme peripheral areas. Good, strong legends complete the compelling appearance of this lovely example of Washingtonia.
