Lot Title:
1823 Private Restrike PCGS MS-66 BN.
Description:
As is always the case, the obverse has an extensive array of die cracks and a dramatic rim cud between the fourth and seventh stars, while the muled 1813 large cent's reverse shows its die crack, and plenty of die rust as well. Steely blue tones are involved with a surprising supply of mint red color to produce a gorgeous two-toned effect for this well-known restrike. Clandestine status notwithstanding, this surely has to be one of the very finest examples known of this privately produced “coin” as there are essentially no post-mint defects visible on either side.
