Lot Title:
1800 LM-4 R6 "LIBEKTY" AU-55 Details, Corroded.
Description:
This is the scarcest die-marriage exhibiting the “LIBEKTY” moniker on the obverse, and not even the plate coin in the Logan-McCloskey book approaches the sharpness of this example. Apparently a dug coin, the surfaces are entirely rough and micro-pitted as is typical of a coin that has spent much time in the ground. Furthermore, a couple of fairly recent scratches and abrasions imply that the coin may have been accidentally abraded as it was being dug out of the ground. Grade assessments aside, this is a very rare coin that should attract collectors who actively collect this series by variety.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
