Lot Title:

1800 LM-1 VF-35 Details, Straightened .
|
Description:
|
This is really a rather remarkable half dime, considering its trials and tribulations. From the positive standpoint, it looks awesome, with an extremely original appearance that is incredibly difficult to locate for early specimens of the denomination. Both sides are nicely centered, and the detail boldly struck in all areas. Unfortunately, the coin was apparently bent, and circulated as such for a short while. Then it apparently seems to have been straightened contemporaneously prior to additional ensuing use in circulation. Fascinating! That is why it shows no signs of any modern repair or efforts to adjust it. Without the damage, an original coin like this should easily bring $4000 or more, and we look forward to seeing how the market treats this humbly injured yet brave survivor from the turn of the previous century.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
