Description: Extremely Fine or better details are netted down a few points due to a trio of odd little square punches above the date. Could these square punches be a cryptic countermark, perhaps? Of more importance to the copper collector, the planchet and field quality for this Classic Head large cent are truly outstanding--nearly glass smooth--which is extraordinary for the issue. Exquisite mahogany highlights against dark walnut fields yield a desirable “circulation cameo” look that will appeal to most every collector. A lack of dentilation implies a later die state, and the reverse is struck a bit off center to the north. EAC 20.
