(About The Images)
1911, 1919-D, and 1931-S. BU Dipped. 1911, 1919-D, and 1931-S. BU Dipped.
Lot Title: 1911, 1919-D, and 1931-S. BU Dipped.
Description: Partially squared rims on the obverse conspire with a fantastic strike to give the 1911 a somewhat matte-prooflike appearance. Mostly brown, despite having been dipped long ago, with some slightly glossy sienna color. There may be some old varnish or oil residue resting on the surface, and we would otherwise grade it MS-63 BN. The 1919-D has the appearance of an MS-63, despite an enigmatic planchet flaw on Lincoln’s cheek, and the effects of a mild dip have mostly been compensated by natural album retoning. Finally, the 1931-S has the unmistakable pinkish hue that is associated with dipping, but again, subsequent album storage has gone a long way toward restoring the surfaces, and some nice iridescent toning has developed along the edges. Grades MS-63 otherwise due to a scuff on Lincoln’s beard. Three coin lot.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
