Lot Title:
Four Morgan Silver Dollars.
Description:
An odd and interesting lot of four Morgan dollars, all submitted at the same time to NGC for certification. The 1921 was graded MS-65 and is an untoned Gem, and the 1921-D is essentially untoned as well, grading MS-64. Also included are an 1889-O and an 1890 that were both rejected as uncertifiable due to cleaning. The NGC assessment of “cleaned” is virtually inscrutable to this cataloger, as under every angle of lighting and magnification, they both look like perfectly normal, acceptable coins. There is perhaps a faint hint of haze in some areas on the reverse of the 1890, but it looks simply like a nice MS-65, and the 1889-O doesn’t seem to have been cleaned at all; it looks MS-64! An interesting quartet that will certainly turn some heads. Four coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
