Lot Title:
1839 No Drapery. VF-20.
Description:
Slate grey fields offer little reflectivity, and the reverse features additional charcoal toning worked in around many of the letters and devices. "LIBERTY" is deep and bold, as are the shield lines, but there is an old hairline extending upward from Liberty’s right (observed) hand, and a cluster of little bagmarks above her outstretched foot. The “no drapery” is a somewhat tougher Redbook variety, and as the first issue of the series, is in strong demand by type collectors. Our consignor states that the coin was removed from an NGC VF-30 slab, but we believe VF-20 to be an appropriate grade.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
