(About The Images)
1837 Seated No Stars, Small Date. PCGS MS-62. 1837 Seated No Stars, Small Date. PCGS MS-62.
Lot Title: 1837 Seated No Stars, Small Date. PCGS MS-62.
Description: Difficult to locate in uncirculated grades, the “small date” attribution is confirmed by the rounded top of the “3”. Though generally darkly toned, certain angles of lighting bring out the colors lurking beneath the heavy patination on the obverse, revealing a coruscating pattern of mostly navy-blue color that cedes to a magenta area near the center. The reverse is not quite so heavily toned, and though it mirrors the obverse color scheme, the magenta area nearly fills the wreath. Awfully close to a choice grade, which is probably denied by a couple of stray bagmarks and a single pinscratch in the left obverse field.
