Lot Title:
1835 Large Date, LG 5C LM-1. NGC AU-55 Jules Reiver Collection.
Description:
Ex-Jules Reiver (Heritage, 1/26/2006). A rather reflective iridescent obverse border surrenders abruptly to the much more thickly patinated central area that encircles Liberty’s portrait with mulberry and cyan tones. The reverse is similarly toned, though it is not nearly as reflective in any area. Suitably struck, with a scattering of incidental abrasions confirming brief circulation. “Reiver state a,” referenced in the Heritage description, is ascertained by die cracks off the Eagle’s left (observed) wing tip, between an olive leaf and the denomination, and projecting off the left edge of the reverse motto, and "S" (S2) is filled by die-defects. A very desirable coin on its own merits, even without the important provenance.
