Lot Title:

1867 PF-65+.
|
Description:
|
Phenomenal visual appeal greets the viewer of this Proof issue. Dramatic, frosty motifs contrast nicely against the background of the mirrored fields, and careful scrutiny of this specimen's surfaces might lead one to deduce a verdict of "virtually pristine." A stunning blend of exquisite gold, crimson, and cornflower blue peripherally enhance the central imagery, but it must be emphasized that the validity of the origin of this iridescence cannot be warranted, and successful submission to a third party grading service is not assured. Regardless, the small proof mintage of only 625 pieces compels some consideration for ownership of this coin.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Effects of corrosion have been slightly attenuated by resmoothing of the surfaces, but the excessively bright silvery-blue color is clearly not natural. |
