Lot Title:
1804 PCGS VG-10.
Description:
We seldom see this date in a PCGS holder. This coin is on very nice copper. The quality of the planchet approaches choice, and that is saying a lot for an 1804 cent. The color is just as nice -- a natural medium chocolate brown. Lacking any real marks, either on the surfaces or on the rims, this is a problem-free example. All 1804 cents were struck from a single pair of dies, and they used those dies until they fell apart. This began with a break at "ty" in "Liberty" on the obverse, and later a separate break occluded a few letters of "America." When offered, these sell quickly, and often for a substantial premium. This is a serious cent for the serious collector.
