Lot Title:
1807 JR-1, R-2. NCS XF-40 Details, Rev Repaired, Improperly Cleaned.
Description:
Only one variety is listed for this year having a total production run of 165,000 pieces. The obverse die was employed solely for this variety, while the reverse die was also utilized for Quarter Eagles struck in 1805, 1806, and 1807. Signs of repair are perceived beneath the Eagle's tail feathers. The boldness of the central design motifs are typical for this date, as is the weaker peripheral elements. Evidence of die clashing and swelling suggests an extensive die usage. It projects a handsome aspect with a deep purple obverse hue and a charcoal-gray reverse shade.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
