Lot Title:
1865 J-421. PCGS PF-62 RB.
Description:
This copper Reeded Edge "off-metal" striking was struck from dies utilized to mint regular issue silver Proof 1865 dimes. Ascribed as Judd-421, Pollock -423, Rarity-7+. It was specifically made for sale to collectors of this era, and fewer than four pieces have been substantiated. Its mattelike surfaces reflect a coppery red aspect, and highlights of a delicate chartreuse are detected next to Liberty's left arm. Some faint die striations are perceived in the obverse fields, and some widely strewn specks are observed on both sides. A superbly struck example of an extremely rare coinage. There are no designated Red examples, and only one specimen is certified Brown. PCGS Population: 2, 1 finer (Proof-64 RB).
