Lot Title:
1858 J-208. AU-50.
Description:
This Copper-Nickel, Plain Edge piece is described as Judd-208, Pollock-253, Rarity-7. This Indian Head type has the "broad bust point" with the date low on its obverse, while the reverse depicts a laurel wreath with 5 leaf clusters and "ONE CENT" centered high. Its lustrous satiny surfaces exhibit a pleasing pewter iridescence adorned with rose highlights. A few insignificant contact ticks are observed on Liberty's cheek, and a faint hairline is noted from "U" of "UNITED" to her throat. Also, an insignificant rim bruise is above "AM" of "AMERICA." This popular pattern was designed by James B. Longacre for the 12 coin pattern sets he produced, and the mint sold these to collectors for a premium.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
