Lot Title:
1871 J-1082. NGC PF-63.
Description:
This issue was struck in aluminum with a Reeded Edge, and it is ascribed as Judd-1082, Pollock-1218, Rarity-8. William Barber no doubt completed the dies used to produce this James B. Longacre design. Stars are added to the obverse, while the reverse employs the Standard Silver reverse model of 1870. An intense vibrancy is generated from the visual contrast of its frosted motifs and supporting mirrored fields. A tainted aspect is perceived at the center portion of the obverse's design, and also on the reverse's wreath to the left of the bow. This surface peculiarity was a consequence of metallurgic contamination. A light array of faint hairlines and die striations are mentioned for its attribution. Its prominent detailing substantiates the desirability this handsome specimen will offer to its new owner. NGC Population: 1, none finer. Fewer than three specimens are verified at the time of this description.
