Lot Title:
1861 ANACS MS-65.
Description:
The grade might say MS-65, but this coin is also completely deserving of a "star" or "plus sign" designation because the eye-appeal is so intense. Rich, wonderful, and original indigo and orange album toning encircles the obverse, while the reverse displays mostly ruby red peripheral toning. Satiny luster enhances the relatively mark-free surfaces. A tiny bagmark on Liberty's cheek is the only apparent factor limiting the coin's grade, but we have all seen coins similar looking that are housed in an MS-66 holder. This coin is exquisitely original, has resided in a Saint Louis estate for 40 years, and was certified for its one-and-only time about 10 years ago.
