(About The Images)
1796 VF-20+. 1796 VF-20+.
Lot Title: 1796 VF-20+.
Description: An impressive circulated example of a JR-6 specimen -- diagnostic by the distinctive obverse die breaks with the most obvious through 179 of the date. Possibly subjected to a light cleaning, but it has retoned to a pleasing slate gray.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

561The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$1,400.00
1796 (JR-1) circulated/impaired.
Ex-Stack's, Rich Uhrich Collection, 2/26/2008: 1471. Slightly bent, which is the reason the obverse grades G+, and the reverse is unevenly worn to AG-3. Call the overall grade "good-minus", with...
419The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$12,750.00
1796 (JR-1, R.3) NGC XF-45 CAC.
sn: 3177232-007. JR-1 is familiar to early dime collectors as the most common 1796 die-marriage, instantly identifiable by the cud on the first star. Obviously, being the first year of the type, any...
399The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$13,250.00
1796 "JR-2, R.4," PCGS Genuine.
JR-2 is a better die marriage variety for 1796, though with an R.4 rarity, it is not impossible to find. However, not many could have survived to modern times with the level of detail offered by the...
400The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$12,250.00
1796 "JR-4, R.4" Small Eagle. PCGS Genuine.
Variegated toning is comprised of navy-blue, burnt-orange and golden undertones, overlaid by deep grey patina. PCGS has only called this coin "genuine" without certifying the grade, and your cataloger...
404The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$5,250.00
1796 ANACS XF-45 Details, Altered Surfaces.
ANACS has supplied a disclaimer of “altered surfaces,” but to be specific, this coin has been whizzed in spots to smooth a few hairlines or handling marks. It was then cleverly recolored in tones...
1190The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$975.00
1796 JR-1 AG-3.
This is the most prevailing variety for the first year of issue with the Small Eagle Reverse. It is immediately recognizable by the large cud on the rim beneath the first star on the obverse. Its...
