Lot Title:
1882 $10.00. Big Timber, MT Charter# 4932 Date Back. VG.
Description:
The Big Timber National Bank of Big Timber, Montana. Yes, you read the above title correctly. This note is, indeed, an incredibly scarce Big Timber, Montana national that is a new discovery and just one of two now known to exist. It has never before been offered to the collecting community, and it is highly unlikely to be offered again anytime soon. The Big Timber name was derived in 1806 by a railroad official who read the journals of William Clark. Clark mentioned in those writings the giant cottonwood trees that grew near the area called "Rivers Across," where Big Timber is today. However, visitors to that town will likely comment that the most impressive aspect of Big Timber is not just the giant cottonwood trees, but also its stunning mountain views. Though this note is heavily circulated, we are lucky to have discovered a second Date Back example that is respectable conditionally. We hope the winning bidder will enjoy owning it as much as we have enjoyed offering it.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
