Lot Title:

1799 (S-189) ANACS VF details/corroded/net F-12.
Description:
The original ANACS insert accompanies, although the consignor removed the coin from its slab some time ago (it now rests in an after-market holder). Even at the time this coin was certified some 25 years ago, ANACS provided an assessment which seems VERY conservative today, stating "VF details, corroded, net F-12". This cataloger would outright purchased EVERY "F-12" 1799 large-cent that looks this nice! "Corroded" is a term that covers a whole spectrum of surface disturbance, and hardly seems applicable to a 1799 with ebony-brown surfaces as smooth as this. Have you seen what passes as a "collectable" 1799 cent today? The most noticeable grievance appears in front of Liberty's bust where a cluster of small pits and voids confirm the "corroded" disclaimer - to some extent. Minor and relatively even surface roughness can also be found on the reverse, but in no way does it pain the eye to view the coin in any suitable light. 1799 just does not come along this nice very often, and this one has been off the market for over two decades. Don't let it pass you by. (PCGS# 001443)
