Lot Title:
1857-D VF details/cleaned.
Description:
Mintage: 17,046. Undeniably cleaned, although some slight copper-yellow patina has begun to return to the rims. With regard to details level, this is the kind of sharpness that usually elicits VF-30 to VF-35 consideration, although additional patina must develop in order to get a straight grade. (PCGS# 008273)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Well worn on the obverse, though 1857-D seldom was struck very well to begin with. The reverse certainly has VF detail or close, and that probably is the appropriate overall details grade. ... |
