Complete collection of Washington quarters, including proof-only issues, 1932 through 1998-S silver, in Dansco 8140 album
Description:
White Mare Collection. The consignor has stated very emphatically that he considers this collection of Washington quarters to be his crowning achievement with regard to his numismatic pursuits. Hands-down, the results support his effort, as it is one of the nicest complete album sets ever to cross the Scotsman auction block. We could find zero coins grading below MS-60, with no known sliders, nor any pieces that appear to have any noticeable problems. (Please note that all ESTIMATES are offered "through the plastic", as the slides are stapled in place.) The following are given as highlights with regard to value: 1932-D (MS-63), 1932-S (MS-62), 1934-D (MS-64), 1935-D (MS-63, possible PVC), 1935-S (MS-64), 1936-D (MS-60 with remarkable, frosty fine matte surface texture), 1936-S (MS-64), 1937-D (MS-64), 1937-S (MS-65 as verified by the included ANACS tag), 1938-S (MS-64), 1939-S (MS-64), and 1940-D (MS-64). Furthermore, many coins have taken on some attractive coloration and deserve special mention, in particular: 1951-S, 1954, 1961, and 1964-D. The consignor has also stated that many of coins of the 1940s and 1950s were removed from slabs up through MS-67, so there should be numerous amazing jewels hidden within. Absolutely phenomenal quality and a collection that will require some time for full evaluation.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
